HISTORY OF CTU-MOALBOAL CAMPUS LIBRARY

In 1975, the Moalboal School of Fisheries (former name of Cebu Technological University - Moalboal Campus) started to establish the School Library under the administration of Mr. Sulpicio G. Lapa. This provided the students to study and conduct research for their assignments. Mr. Teodoro Gabales was assigned to administer the overall operations of the said department as an OIC School Librarian, with a size of the equivalent of two (2) standard rooms and a total collection of 121 volumes of books. The facilities were shelves, tables, and chairs. It was located on the right side front portion of the campus.

In 1976, the administration hired Mrs. Epifania Y. Pableo as a School Librarian as per the requirement of a professional librarian. From the students' feedback, the librarian could not accommodate all the needs of students because she had no assistant. The school administration then decided to hire Mrs. Cirila S. Abenido last June 1977 as an assistant to the librarian. Thenceforth, two professional librarians administered the library.

As years passed by and the population of students grew; the library acquisition continuously grew as well. The library references were updated yearly.

Circumstances hit on March 1986. A campus fire disaster happened, and the library was destroyed. The library management had to start from scratch. The school administration put up the library building on the left side front portion of the campus, which occupied two (2) standard-size rooms. Days passed, and with the help of the school management, the library recovered from the catastrophe. The administration established a new school library with more facilities, equipment, and references.

In 1992, during the administration of Mr. Andres T. Melencion, the library needed to be renovated because of termites. The school administration decided to transfer the library to another facility, which was bigger than the old one and had an area of 224 sq. m. The library management purchased more tables and chairs and constructed shelves for the library materials display.

Mrs. Nyx P. Tarongoy assumed the office in July 2011, as a replacement for Mrs. Epifania Y. Pableo who retired in January 2009. Likewise, Mrs. Cirila S. Abenido retired in February 2014. Since then, various improvements have been undertaken, including additional shelves, the creation of computer stations with Wi-Fi, revamp of the library setup, updated book collections, lounge area, beanbags, more library staff, an air-conditioned library, and improvement of services.

The technology was realized throughout the transition period of the service with Ms. Ardnasil N. Lisondra in 2018. The rise of the Integrated Library System by using the INFOLIB program. Barcode of the Books, Electronic process of Circulation, Electronic Entrance Log IN, and Electronic searching of books that is Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) are applied. In 2020, a worldwide crisis occurred, and the library service changed a lot. The library management launched Online Library Services such as Document Delivery, some parts of the books were sent to email; CLORA (CTU Library Online Reference Assistance), in which the student and faculties can inquire through Facebook Messenger.  With the continual evolution of digital technologies, Electronic Books (scanned physical printed books, could be downloaded from free access sites and be procured from electronic databases

In the new educational landscape, the library clientele is now in a digital generation, and the library management faces more challenges in expanding and enhancing the current service. In early 2021, the Library Learning Common was introduced, a holistic space combining research, technology, socialization, refreshing, and other student services. In 2022, the Library Modernization Plan was realized. The library was revamped into the Modern Library or Library Learning Common.
